MDP

Investment Strategy

MDP pursues investment opportunities that can be generally categorized as either management buyouts or structured/growth equity transactions.

Management buyouts typically involve the investment by MDP of $100 million to $600 million of equity capital (though MDP has the capability to commit to larger investments) and include the following situations:

  • Buyouts of private or publicly held companies, or divisions of larger companies; and
  • Recapitalizations of family-owned or closely held companies, designed to achieve liquidity or raise equity without going public and allow the sellers to retain significant continuing ownership.

Structured transactions and growth equity investments typically involve the commitment by MDP of $100 million to $400 million of equity and include the following situations:

  • Investments in private or public, mature, cash flow positive companies;
  • Capital for recapitalizations and balance sheet restructurings;
  • Companies that are seeking capital to fund rapid internal growth; and
  • Acquisition-oriented financings involving companies that require capital to pursue one or more acquisitions or mergers.

In addition to having invested in a variety of general manufacturing and service industries, MDP's principals have developed investment expertise in several specific industries, including basic industries (such as natural resources, chemicals, energy and power, automotive, building products, food, metals and mining, refining, paper, packaging and forest products, and general manufacturing), communications, consumer, financial services, and health care.
